Whether directly inspired by it or not, LIMBO opened the floodgates. Is there a WRONG way to play Tears of the Kingdom?
Переглядів 347 тис.Рік тому
How the heck do you balance an open world sandbox that lets you do basically anything, with a heavily story driven, narrative focused experience? Well, evidently, Nintendo decided to leave it up to the player to figure that out, which is why it's surprisingly easy to miss out on some of this game's best content. This essay is more of a retrospective on the linearity of the Zelda series than it ...

I don't understand people. Every bloody review says some flavor of this, "frustrating but gets good once you unlock stuff blablabla". NO, I willingly, actively spent the first 30 hours of death stranding walking as slowly as the game allowed. I didn't sprint a single time in those 30 hours. I even got frustrated by the controls and used steam input options to make sure I was walking as slowly as the animations allowed without immersion breaking stuttering. The story is absolutely ass but for some reason I empathised with Sam so strongly that I didn't want to work my precious boy too hard (not talking about the baby). 30 hours is the time it took me to reach the second map and unlock the exoskelleton, wich is the only reason i ever run because it absorbs the impact and protect my boy sam's fictionnal knees. I specifically bought this game because the vibes from a gameplay trailer felt like a walking simulator in Iceland and was absolutely appalled when I realised there would be combat in my little hiking sim. Am I really the only one ? Is it so unimmaginable to enjoy a nice hike in beautiful digital iceland with low roar playing in the background ? Nothing to focus on but the weight on my shoulders, where I take my next step, my itinerary and the delicious grunts of norman reedus. But also cool video notheless, good job man.

i loved to play satisfactory in the beginning but after that i havent really tried to go for the highest tiers. The reason is the IMMENSE repetitiveness in this game. I can vividly rememember building 120 constructors next to each other. And every new construction machine(like the assembler) takes in on more than the previous one and thats it. So any future update will just mean plugging more conveyor belts into a new inlet of a new machine. I think this 3D open world approach of satisfactory is extremly hard to implement in a way that is intresting to the player and has not been successful. But they also forgot core basics for the idea to walk around in an open world with aliens. These things are: information display (you have to check every machine individually) which makes it hard to keep track of your material flows, almost no customization of the producing machines (except for output management, slugs and blueprints), unbalanced logistic options (why does a conveyor belt not cost anything in maintenance). There is almost no problem solving needed because the location is irrelevant since you can just build more conveyor belts. Also getting to a new milestone just gets you more tasks without providing a whole lot of new options. Yea running fast and jumping high is cool but thats basically it. This game has a weird focus on its open world sacrificing depth and QoL options for the production aspect of the game.
